The culture surrounding the huge tea plantations is a unique phenomenon and is a lifetime experience. Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Delhi

Welcome to India- a country where hospitality is a way of life; to a culture steeped in tradition, a land where history lives in music and dance. You will be received at the airport and proceed to your hotel for check in.

Day 2 Delhi

Morning after a relaxed breakfast we will take you to a tour of Old and New Delhi.

In Old Delhi visit to Old Delhi, here you will get to see the famous Jama Majid and have an opportunity to enjoy a Rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of the and drive pass by Red Fort. Later we will visit Bangla sahib, Gandhi museum and continue drive to visit the Qutab Minar and India Gate.

Day 3Delhi – Dibrugarh

Today early morning you will transfer to Delhi airport where you will board flight to Dibrugarh (via Kolkata).

Our representative will receive you at Dibrugarh Airport on arrival and take you to Heritage Tea bungalow for overnight stay.

Spend the evening at leisure.

Day 4Dibrugarh

Morning proceed on a tour of a Heritage Tea Garden to practically see the origin and the history of tea – how it is grown and its culture.

Visit the tea factory to observe the full process of manufacturing of CTC (Crush, Tear and Curl) tea. Also visit Mancotta Tea Estate- known for traditionally producing the fine orthodox variety of tea. In the afternoon drive to Digboi (45 km/ 1 hour), the birthplace of oil industry in India. The first refinery was started here as early as 1901 by the British. Digboi has the oldest oil well in operation. This place still retains the British ambiance, complemented by the clubs and Golf courses nearby. Visit the World War II cemetery, the Oil museum, the Centenary Park here. Then proceed to the Singpho village of Ketatong. Singphos are a tribe belonging to the Kachin of Burma and are ethnically related to the Jingpo of China. It is said that the English learnt about tea from the Singpho tribe and introduced the beverage to in India. Also visit the Organic tea garden of the Singpho people.

Thereafter drive back to Dibrugarh, Overnight stay at Heritage Tea bungalow.

Day 5 Dibrugarh – Jorhat

Today morning after relaxed breakfast, we will drive towards Jorhat (Approx. 140 kms 4-5hrs drive).

Upon arrival at Jorhat and you will transfer to hotel for check in.

Day 6Jorhat – Majuli Island – Jorhat

Today you will explore the Majuli Island (Approx. 45 kms 2 hrs drive / 1 ½ hrs by ferry each way). The world’s largest River Island is famous for its twenty-two 15th Century “satras”. These are Hindu aishnev (followers of Lord Vishnu) monasteries functioning as enters of Assamese arts. The worship of Lord Vishnu is through dance, music and poetry. The satras take in young boys and groom them. The daily routine includes working in the fields, tending cattle, prayer, discussion and study. The satras have also nurtured certain art and craft traditions, which can now be found only here. In Natun Samugri satra for instance, one can still find the craft of mask-making; Kamlabari satra still makes the finest boats. We will also explore the villages of Miri tribes who live on this island.

Day 7Jorhat – Guwahati

Morning after early breakfast, check out at hotel and you will transfer to Guwahati (approx. 305kms / 6-7hrs drive).

Upon arrival in Guwahati, you will transfer to hotel for check in.

Afternoon, we would take you to a Kamakhya Temple (Kamakhya temple on Nilachal Hill, eight km west of the city is believed to be an ancient ‘Khasi’ sacrificial site. It has been a part and parcel of Assamese life and culture from ancient times. The temple dedicated to the Goddess Kamakhya is one of the oldest and most sacred centers for Shakti worship and Tantric Hinduism. The ponds here are home to some giant turtles. There is a majestic view of the city and the Brahmaputra River from the hill top. (Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the sanctum).

Day 8Guwahati – New Jalpaiguri – Kurseong

Morning after early breakfast, you will transfer to Guwahati railway station where you will board train to New Jalpaiguri.

DBRT RAJDHANI EXP 12423, departing Guwahati at 0700hrs arrive New Jalpaiguri at 1305hrs.

Our representative will receive you at New Jalpaiguri station and drive to Kurseong (approx. 40kms/ 2hrs drive). Arrive in your resort Cochrane Palace situated near tea state.

Day 9 Kurseong

Morning we will take you guided tour in and around tea estate of Makaibari and a brief overview of how tea is grown, manufactured and tasted. Followed by a mixer of walk and drive around the tea estate visiting plantations, nurseries witnessing how the fabled Darjeeling Tea is grown, nurtured. Interact with the workers and participate in tea plugging if one is in progress. Visit to the tea factory to see different stages of tea processing such as Withering, Rolling, Fermenting, Drying and finally sorting. End your day with a tea tasting session, where one can discover the differences in aroma, flavor and appearance of tea manufactured in different ways, and during different time of the year. The session also includes tasting teas from other parts of India and the world, and examples of flavored and blended teas.

Overnight in Kurseong.

Day 10Kurseong – Darjeeling

Early morning drive to Tiger Hill to see the magnificent view of sunrise over Mount Kanchenjunga and the great Eastern Himalayan ranges. On the way back, we visit Ghum Monastery (Yiga Choling Buddhist Monastery) which has the image of Maitreya Buddha (the future coming Buddha). After breakfast we ride on the Famous Toy Train of Darjeeling. It takes us 45 minutes ride towards Ghum railway station which used to be the second highest in the world. (Now the 5th highest).

Afternoon, we visit the famous Himalayan Mountaineering Institute which has a museum specializing on the various expeditions on peaks of the Himalayas and an exclusive Everest Museum which tells us the history along with its expeditions to Everest.

Return to Darjeeling and take a walk relaxed stroll on the Chowrasta (Main Local Market Street). Overnight at your hotel.

Day 11 Darjeeling – Bagdogra – Delhi out

Morning after an early breakfast, drive down to Bagdogra Airport (approx. 70kms / 3-4hrs drive) to board flight to Delhi.

In Delhi, you will further take flight for your onward destination.
